Intraoral Cameras

Have you ever wondered what your dentist was seeing when they look inside your mouth? Well, now you can look right along with them! An intraoral camera is a small video camera that Dr. Justin can move around your mouth and you can watch in real time on the chairside computer screen. These cameras help you understand what is going on and are part of your treatment conversation. Patients love the collaborative effect of the process.

Laser Dentistry

Traditional deep cleaning involves the pulling back of the gums and manually scraping the tartar build up beneath. While effective, this procedure can cause anxiety and cause some discomfort. An alternative is the use of lasers. With laser dentistry, the tartar under the gumline is removed without irritation to the soft tissue. For many people nervous about a deep cleaning, laser dentistry is a great option.

Oral Cancer Screening with OralID®

Nearly 53,000 Americans will be diagnosed with oral cancer this year according to the Oral Cancer Foundation. Experts say the best way to ensure successful treatment outcomes is early detection. As your dental team, your oral health is our passion. We screen adult patients for oral cancer at each standard twice-yearly checkup. Using a simple tool that shines a special light on your soft tissues, we can detect any abnormalities, painlessly. With OralID your oral cancer screening is quick, easy, painless and can potentially save your life.

Digital X-rays

X-rays are an important part of your dental exam. X-rays help us see if cavities are forming and how your teeth and jawbone align. They provide a picture of things we can’t see with our eyes and provide a starting point for restorative treatments. Traditional film x-rays required a higher level of radiation exposure and longer wait time for the final image. Digital x-rays are nearly instant and expose patients to less radiation. For more information about radiation exposure and dental x-rays, you can find the American Dental Association and Food and Drug Administration guidelines here: Radiation exposure information.

*If you are pregnant, please be sure to let your dental team know.

Panoramic X-rays

Like a panoramic photo of a sunset or mountaintop view, a panoramic x-ray provides a wider view of the mouth. With a panoramic x-ray, instead of seeing one or two teeth at a time, we can see the entire top and bottom arches, giving us a more detailed, comprehensive view of what is happening in your mouth. Panoramic x-rays have the capability to detect cysts, bone abnormalities, tumors, impacted teeth or other issue a regular x-ray can miss for more precise diagnosis and peace of mind.

LANAP® – Laser-Assisted New Attachment Procedure

Laser-assisted new attachment procedure (LANAP) is a revolutionary approach to periodontal surgery. Before LANAP, tissue damaged by periodontal disease had to be removed by invasive cutting, suturing and sometimes grafting of the gums. With LANAP, a tiny laser has the capability to target and destroy diseased tissue and harmful bacteria. LANAP also encourages regeneration of healthy tissue and expedites healing. The procedure is less invasive with less pain and downtime compared to traditional gum surgery.

Power or electric toothbrushes are a great alternative to regular, manual brushes. For people who have a hard time brushing like they are supposed to, electronic brushes can help apathetic brushers remove more plaque when they brush their teeth. There are several different types of electronic brushes:

Sonic: These work in a side-to-side motion at about 24-48,000 strokes per minute. They are audible to the human ear.
Ultrasonic: Ultrasonic uses ultrasound to remove plaque from teeth at 2,400,000 movements per minute. While effective, ultrasonic brushes are expensive and hard to find.
Rotary: Rotary brushes have a brush-head that works in a circular fashion at 3,000 to 7,500 strokes per minute.

We offer our patients sonic brushes by Sonicare and Oral-B in our office. If you have questions about which toothbrush is best for you, let us know!

WaterPik®

If you have braces, dental implants, or bridges a water flosser, is a better way to remove debris from around your dental work. Water flossers spray water in a steady stream that can penetrate the gumline and remove stubborn plaque from between teeth. If you don’t have any special dental work, but struggle with gum disease, water flossers have shown to help improve the health of gums. If you are interested in discussing the option of a water flosser, please ask at your next appointment.
