Extractions & Wisdom Teeth

Sometimes it is a good thing to lose a permanent tooth. If you have a tooth that is badly decayed or has been broken beyond repair, we will suggest an extraction. Removing a tooth that is causing pain can be a huge relief. It can also prevent serious infection. We can also provide many options to fill the gap if an extraction is necessary. We can discuss dental implants, a bridge, dentures or implant-supported dentures if you need multiple extractions. The great news? We can handle your entire treatment plan in-house with no need for outside specialists. Dr. Justin can do it all in the comfort of your dental home with us.

Extracting Wisdom Teeth

Third molars can be a real pain

Wisdom teeth, often called third molars, are in the outer back corners of the top and bottom arches. They are the last of the teeth to erupt, typically arriving between the ages of 17-25. While some people’s wisdom teeth come in with no problems, others grow in sideways or become impacted due to inadequate space in the jaw. Impacted wisdom teeth can not only be painful, they can become infected. If Dr. Justin believes your wisdom tooth is impacted or that extraction will prevent problems down the road, he is likely to suggest extraction.

When you may need a wisdom tooth extraction
  • Tooth is growing at an angle
  • The tooth is causing pain
  • Food gets stuck behind it
  • If a cyst or infection develops
  • It starts to decay
  • It is impacting the ability to straighten the rest of your smile

If you have not had your wisdom teeth extracted, it may be a good time to see if removing them could prevent issues in the future. Dr. Justin is happy to look and let you know about extraction.

Full Mouth Reconstruction

Transform your smile, transform your life

We work with patients at different ages and stages of the dental spectrum. From single cavities to full mouth rehabilitation, Birch Dental provides a nonjudgmental space to get the high-quality dental care you deserve. If you have experienced dental trauma, decay, disease, or failed treatments that have left your mouth in need of significant work, you’ve come to the right place.

Bring Back Your Self-Confidence

It’s our job to help patients maintain healthy teeth, and that includes the surrounding structures holding the teeth in place–the gums and the jawbone. Prior to any type of treatment, Dr. Justin performs a comprehensive assessment of your oral cavity. We’ll take x-rays to determine the stability of the jawbone and teeth and assess the soft tissues for signs of periodontal disease or infection.

As when building a house, the foundation needs to be stable before oral surgery begins. If your gums are infected, we will start with periodontal therapy; if your jaw is not strong enough to support future restorations, we may recommend bone grafting to stabilize future restorations. Once the foundation of your mouth is healthy, we can begin rebuilding your smile.

Your full mouth reconstruction may include one or more of these procedures:

  • Dental implants
  • Veneers
  • Bone grafting
  • Bridge
  • Dentures
  • Implant supported dentures
  • Restorative work (fillings or crowns)
  • Extractions
  • Periodontal therapy

Full mouth reconstruction is a possibility. If you work together with Dr. Justin and the Birch Dental team, we have the skills, tools, and passion to get your mouth looking and feeling its best. There’s always hope for your smile–get in touch with your Newport Beach dentist today!
